a microsoft developer i think i need to give microsoft one last chance before pronouncing them hopeless in search engine.

SharePoint is no more in Office product set, atlast :-)

64 Bit is the key. SharePoint server will now only support 64 Bit platform which means even 64 Bit database.

Internet Explorer 6 is expired!!! So its not supported.

Blog after long time. Just got extremely busy in some personal stuff. Came across Microsoft new development release. Have not tried it yet but thought for those who visit this site should know. Well microsoft have release Visual Studio 2010 version. Its major improvement which i am expecting is the development of office apps and also sharepoint apps. Let us all see.

One of the hurdles i faced while trying to deploy the worker service in the development fabric was to configure the development storage to run under

my own sql server instance and not the built in sql express. To achieve that there is a command line tool dsInit

run this command with the new sql server instance name

dsInit /sqlinstance:<InstanceName>

For default or unnamed instances use the .\<MSSQL> parameter

Are you using sharepoint 2003 or wss 2.0 or for some wierd reason your moss is not indexing office 2007 files then you SHOULD NOT install office 2007 on the server. This is a big NO.

Just install the IFilter pack released from Microsoft. Microsoft Ifilter pack

This will enhance following products:

Office SharePoint Server 2007

Search Server 2008

SharePoint Portal Server 2003

Windows SharePoint Services v3.0

-- Plus it will help you index visio and OneNote Files also :-).

This is brief. Just would like to point out that if you are thinking to install SharePoint on Windows 2008 then heres something for a thought. Windows 2008 doesnt come with WSS 3.0 as default. Hence you need to install it yourselves. But the problem is when you want to do that - it will not allow you. It will ask for Service Pack 1 to be installed. The rational question to ask is, how can i install sp1 when i dont have the wss installed at first place. The answer is, you need to install WSS bundled with SP1. Heres the link to do that :-).
